The origins of Bang Bang Chicken can be traced back to Chinese cuisine, where it is known as "Bang Bang Ji," a dish traditionally made with shredded chicken tossed in a spicy sauce. The term “Bang Bang” is believed to derive from the sound of the wooden mallet used to pound the chicken into tender pieces. Over time, this dish has evolved, and its flavors have been adapted to suit a variety of culinary styles, leading to the creation of Bang Bang Chicken Bowls that blend elements of Asian cooking with modern tastes.

Ingredients

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1 cup cornstarch

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1/4 cup sweet chili sauce

1 tablespoon Sriracha (adjust for heat)

2 cups cooked jasmine rice

1 cup shredded purple cabbage

1 cup shredded carrots

1/2 cup sliced green onions

1 avocado, sliced

Sesame seeds for garnish

Fresh cilantro for garnish

Lime wedges for serving

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces. In a bowl, mix the cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Coat the chicken pieces in the cornstarch mixture, ensuring they are well covered.

Fry the Chicken: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes per batch. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

Make the Bang Bang Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha. Mix until smooth and adjust seasoning to your taste.

Assemble the Bowls: In serving bowls, start with a base of jasmine rice. Top the rice with the fried chicken pieces and drizzle generously with the Bang Bang sauce.

Add Fresh Vegetables: Arrange the shredded purple cabbage and carrots around the chicken. Add slices of avocado and sprinkle with sliced green onions, sesame seeds, and fresh cilantro.

Serve: Serve the Bang Bang Chicken Bowls with lime wedges on the side for an extra burst of flavor.
